A Profile of the chemistry department:
The department of chemistry began its journey in 1952 at undergraduate level and it has become an integral part of this institution. Another milestone was achieved by the establishment of M.Sc Organic Chemistry in 1991. The main objective of introducing chemistry is to rely on the power of scientific knowledge to solve the problem of food and nutrition security , affordable health care challenges , energy and environmental related problems and sanitation related challenges. Since its inception the department has a sound academic tradition and several achievements to its credit. The department has a efficient , dynamic and highly experienced faculty to cope with the needs of the students. The department has introduced the Choice based Credit System(CBCS) in B.Sc and M.Sc courses in the year 2015-2016 to meet the educational challenges in the world. The department has introduced the job oriented six months Certificate Course in Analytical Techniques in Chemistry during the year 2014-2015.
The Department of Chemistry endeavors to be a nationally-recognized model for educating and graduating students prepared to compete in and contribute to the everchanging, technology-centered world of the 21st century. To achieve this vision the department is committed to provide a course of study for undergraduates & postgraduates in the chemical sciences which combines curriculum and service/engagement opportunities that are high-quality, innovative and intellectually challenging and employ state-of-the-art technology.
To advance the chemical sciences through the education of undergraduate & postgraduate students by providing them with quality classroom, research and service opportunities. With a high standard for excellence in all three areas the department will produce students who are knowledgeable in chemistry and can think critically.
